My partner and I were just discussing how a lot of Black people don't have the education around anti-Semitism to fully get why Nick Cannon's rant was messed up. So let me be your Black & Jewish educational fairy godmother

I literally made an account on Twitter because I saw this thread. I just want to say thank you. I am seeing so many people defend heinous things all over the place. Truly, thank you.

I grew up in NY/NJ hearing my share of racist crap from my parents generation. My own experience (fwiw) is that came from a lack of education being cut off from other communities and not striving to be better. I grew up with Sephardic Syrian fam so never thought of “others”.

“The people that don’t have [melanin] are a little less,” Cannon said. He claimed that they were sent to the Caucasus, where “the sun then started to deteriorate them, so then they’re acting out of fear, they’re acting out of low self-esteem, they’re acting out of a deficiency.”

Although, I had very little knowledge about Jewish history. I thought Nick’s comments were absolutely disappointing and “racist”. What you have shared here is so informative and well written. Thank you “fairy godmother”.😊

Good words. The Jewish and Black communities used to be tighter. We should oppose those who try to drive us apart.

I'm not sure if this helped me to have a better understanding. But I landed somewhere in the muck that there are racist/colorist issues in the Jewish community as well.

It is also not lost on me that historical reference to Jewish oppression consistently references Black/African people but modern/current references are of White Jews. And there is rarely any acknowledgement or explanation of this change. I would suppose this is the gap of racism
