To put things in perspective; “Afghan” is synonymous with Pashtun/Pakhtun Etnicity. “Afghani” describes the nationality of anyone from Afghanistan. The term you mentioned “Afghanistani” should not be used.
Afghani is the currency of Afghanistan and Afghan is the nationality.
