Next week at #UNGA, she will be joining to urge the international community to take immediate action and put an end to this violation of girls' most basic humanitarian rights. Let's hope they listen.

This week marks one year of the Taliban's defacto ban on girls' secondary education. As Aydin writes so poignantly, 1.2 million Afghan girls are still trapped at home, without a prospect of a brighter future.

This, may be, the most shocking statistics you see today. Shocking but not surprising. Not at all. Nowhere. Education has not failed us. We have failed education. Everywhere. Would like to see the numbers for OECD advanced economies. The surprises may be there.
