I've honestly never heard any other coherent definition of "post-rationalist”, and I doubt any two "post-rationalists" would agree on one. Well, a lot of them would probably agree with this one.https://twitter.com/VesselOfSpirit/status/1149816086562390016 …

My working concept of post-rationalist is someone who thinks that [building and maintaining an as-coherent-as-possible uncertain causal model of the world] is impossible or un-useful for humans.

I have much more respect for the post-rationalists who deserve the prefix post-, by having first honestly attempted the rationalist project and then deemed it flawed, than for those who stood on the sidelines and mocked from the start.

I'm more worried about the conflation of rationality-the-true-art-of-systematically-correct-reasoning with social belonging and/or self-identification with the branded "rationalist" Bay Area social scene. If you speak overmuch of the Way you will not attain it.

People who think the current implementation of "the rationalist project" has (possibly fatally) lost its way might be seeing something real that you're less likely to notice if you frame them as "respectable post-rationalists" rather than "people who have criticisms."

"Post-rationalist" is a strange way to describe yourself if so. The correct reply is to simply deny the title "rationalist" to the LessWrongiath (I myself wish the community had wandered into a different name) and call yourself an empiricist or something.

People who actually explicitly call themselves "post-rationalists" are... strange upon multiple grounds, from my perspective. These are people who in the first place focused on "rationalism" as a community rather than a theorem (and that is a large fact about them).

There's a good reason to consider community, but it's unclear how much of post-rationalism is simply rejecting misunderstood straw-vulcan rationality without, as @renormalized said, "having first honestly attempted the rationalist project."https://twitter.com/MakerOfDecision/status/938496195315601415 …
