“chewbacca” is not a series of sounds a Wookiee can actually make.

I’d take the argument that maybe it represents a roughly similar series of barking sounds if his brother wasn’t named “Lumpawaroo”

It's always interested me from a linguistics perspective of what the Wookiee language is actually like. I'd assume Wookiees can't enunciate the same way humanoids can, and vice versa, so there'd be a lot of rough translation of different names and terms

I guess Wookiee to English would be more like translating between a spoken language and a sign language, given the different capabilities of a Human and a Wookiee's voiceboxes, same as the difference between communication with voice or gestures

When parents go all in to find the most unique name but end up burdening the kid in the long run. Thank god i'm transitioning.

The scene in "Solo" where Han asks him his name, Chewie makes Wookiee noises that sound *nothing* like "Chewbacca" and then Han says "Chewbacca?"pic.twitter.com/UecRA7YRUh
