I was in high school, working a summer job when my father had a massive accident and I needed to go for one weekend to help out - my managers reply? "What's more important, work, or family?" He wanted me to choose. For a summer job.
i am regarded as a company man but ffs family come first everytime and i have NEVER been pulled up by snr managers for taking that line where others peoples or my personal issues are concerned

I don't think the question had finished filling the air before I answered a resounding "family" and he was annoyed that I snapped an answer back that quick. I took the weekend. I didn't quit until later, should've then.

He sure did, and he was PISSED when I replied "family" and scrunched my face in confusion over the very ask. Again, I was 16 and this was a summer job.

I didn't then, I should've. I did demand I have the weekend to help my family out. I ultimately quit later that summer.

Based on his response when I basically yelled "family" as the question left his mouth, he genuinely thought the answer should've been 'work'. He was also upset when I did eventually quit, so no, I don't think you're correct here.
