    She didn’t fail 6 rounds of chemotherapy. Chemo failed her. She didn’t progress, the disease progressed. She never complained about side effects. She reported them. She didn't become palliative, she needed a new way of treating her whole being as she lived

    Keeping virtual medicine real. TY for bringing forward the things that need to be talked about. This is why all voices need to be at the decision making table to co-design solutions

    It’s sometimes hard to talk about virtual medicine with urban folks, as some don’t seem to appreciate that it may further degrade the ability to have & keep on-the-ground rural docs. I’m not sure MDs living urban but virtually ‘working’ rural is congruent with community needs.

    Last year this time, did a deep dive on parking. The rates vary drastically & are not just a social determinant of health. Paying for access to our healthcare is a COMMERCIAL determinant of health.

    Canada's only beginning to grasp social impacts on patients. Parking is a great example of hidden costs in . You can only claim hospital parking or travel on trips over 80km (return). Here's what hospital parking sets you back across Canada:

    Our medical system is designed to quick fix diseases & body parts. This approach doesn’t work for many seniors & those with terminal illness, whose needs are often symptomatic, functional, social & existential. A paradigm shift is needed now!

    What is your ? Mine is grp of former colleagues & current Twitter peers who have been there without asking; they quietly leave meals, drop by with coffee, offer "home care" when I can find none, & send me texts, virtual hugs & DMs when I am most alone

    can feel societal pressure that they should do more. There’s admiration & glory given to idea of caregiver staying at home & in essence "giving up their life" to care for a loved one. That societal pressure makes it harder for people who for many reasons don't do so

    A role model for sure - TY

    Reassuring a patient should always be a delight and never an annoyance. A patient is never wrong or silly for worrying about something that turns out to be fine. It is an enormous privilege to tell someone they are okay when they are terrified no matter how obvious it is to us.
