As I fully expected, the agent at the rental car counter stared at me like I was insane when I handed him the paper and told him what had happened. He sent me back to the police and I got a different officer to look up and print my actual license info. Then I rented the car. 5/

In other words, a police officer trusted me so much automatically — because I "looked like a good person" — that he was prepared to attest to my ability to rent a car without even verifying that I was a licensed driver. The rental company required more evidence than he did. 6/
