Warren developed her plan with a working group of about a dozen people with disabilities, including
@RebeccaCokley,@VilissaThompson,@mattbc, and@SFdirewolf. "Candidates are actually listening to disabled people," Cokley told me.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/10/us/politics/elizabeth-warren-disability-plan.html …1 réponse 17 Retweets 41 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
She is not the only candidate emphasizing disability issues or taking a new approach. In particular, several people in the disability community praised
@JulianCastro for his proposals and attention when he was in the race.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/10/us/politics/elizabeth-warren-disability-plan.html …1 réponse 10 Retweets 24 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
Some items are common to most candidates' plans. e.g., in addition to Warren,
@JoeBiden,@CoryBooker,@PeteButtigieg,@amyklobuchar,@BernieSanders all want to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Many want to end the subminimum wagehttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/10/us/politics/elizabeth-warren-disability-plan.html …1 réponse 4 Retweets 8 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
Klobuchar released her own plan today.https://medium.com/@AmyforAmerica/senator-klobuchars-plan-to-protect-equal-rights-and-provide-opportunity-for-people-with-a65288df570a …

But over and over in my interviews with people with disabilities this week, they emphasized how big Warren's plan is. "It is the most comprehensive thing I have seen in my 20 years of looking at these things,"
@HamOnWheels said.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/10/us/politics/elizabeth-warren-disability-plan.html …1 réponse 7 Retweets 24 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
I want to highlight a couple interviews that didn't make it into the article for space reasons.
@Anniek121, who is a PhD candidate focusing on disability studies and has cerebral palsy, emphasized Warren's statement that all policy issues are disability issues. 1/1 réponse 4 Retweets 15 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
"Seeing someone recognize those points of contact between different marginalized categories was phenomenal," she said. "This is somebody who’s seeing the full picture and isn’t just seeing this as a minority category that you need to speak to." 2/

.
@SFdirewolf, who was part of Warren's working group but hasn't endorsed any candidate, mentioned the part of the plan that focuses on the unique dangers for people with disabilities in natural disasters — like the California wildfires, when PG&E shut off electricity. 3/2 réponses 4 Retweets 15 j'aimeAfficher cette discussion -
"As a disabled Californian reliant on power for breathing and essential life functions, I know firsthand that energy infrastructure and response to natural disasters are going to be major issues that will only escalate in this climate crisis," she said.

How much of Warren's plan is copied from Kamala Harris's, I wonder?

They're nothing alike. Harris's plan was very economically focused. Warren's is much broader and includes a wide array of policies that Harris's didn't.
