Third door: Is this your dog? No, but I think that's Neighbor B's dog. She lives on the second floor, in apartment X. Awesome. We knock on apartment X. No answer. 7/

We knock again. We bang the crap out of that door. No one is home. Well, shit. 8/

A couple other neighbors, hearing all the banging, come into the hallway to investigate. We now have three separate neighbors deeply invested in the welfare of this dog. 9/

Finally, a breakthrough: Someone says the man who lives across the hall from Neighbor B takes care of the dog sometimes when its owner is away. He works down the street. Husband walks out to go find him. 11/

We'll refer to this guy as John. John is not at his workplace, but another employee there gives my husband John's number. 12/

Husband calls John. John answers. Yes, of course he knows the dog. He's about 20 minutes away. He's coming. 13/
