Is now a good time to say that I have never owned a cast iron pan and if it weren't for the six (6) separate posts I've seen this weekend from people bemoaning the idiot in their household who washed theirs with soap after Thanksgiving dinner, I would not have known that was bad?

Hot take: a seasoned cast-iron pan can easily handle a light scrub with soap and water, many times over. People just like to obsess.

I wash mine with mild soap when it needs it, never been a problem. I just put it on the stove for a couple of minutes to dry it. Then I rub it with a little oil, heat did it for another couple of minutes, let it cool, then wipe the oil off.
