And to anyone inclined to respond that one space just looks wrong to them, I say this: If you are on Facebook, everything you have ever posted there has one space between sentences — because Facebook strips additional spaces — and I bet you've never noticed.

Yes, absolutely. But I've found that people get delightfully agitated when I point out to them that *their own posts* have one space and they haven't noticed.

I am a baby boomer who went to Betty Owens Typing School. We were taught to double the space. Then I started working on a Wang computer. And IBM and Mac. And it became one space after a period. No effing need for two spaces! One space is as outmoded as “Dear Sir or Madame.”
