Before and after in Farringdon, London A 1970s office is retrofitted, I think superbly, with a brass cladding that fits with the geometry of neighbouring buildings The new facade makes it a much more pleasant walk at street level and makes the building a better neighbour

I think I now understand what happened to the guy in Bleak House. It wasn't a weird non-sequitur; he was just getting massive FOMO for the Great Exhibition or some other major public event of the 19th century

I was once reading a Poirot book on the tube when I looked up and saw Hugh Fraser, the actor who plays *Captain Hastings* in the ITV series sitting directly opposite. Thought I was hallucinating
