He just handled the fairly complex "coming out" question brilliantly. So much respect and admiration for this strong, intelligent man.
-
I was a little put off by Rachel's question (and potential motive), but I'm realizing that I don't need to worry about Mayor Pete's responses (will he do a good job? Can he handle the hard ones?) He is brilliant and honest and rises above to address any question with integrity.
-
Agreed. Rachel is explaining her motivation better now at the end of the show. Good question in retrospect, and fair game.
-
Just watched her explanation with Lawrence, which was helpful- thanks for mentioning it. I would have missed it!
-
Often times the handoff from Rachel to Lawrence is the most enlightening of the segment!

The White male privilege of waxing poetic about “freedom” but not mentioning the GOP’s assault on reproductive rights, police brutality/state sanctioned execution of unarmed people of color or the refugee/migrant internment camps at the border. Consumer finance though?pic.twitter.com/U2CKijod17
-
I think it's a smart strategy. Conservatives whose votes we'll need in 20 don't care about reproductive rights, police brutality or migrant camps but selfish as they are they do care about keeping their money. Maybe enough to consider voting for him.
-
No use wooing the small number of conservatives who might maybe think about voting Dem if you lose POC - especially black women.
-
Exactly and they still won’t explain how these candidates plan to court people of color in general if they’re so myopic for conservative White votes. Like do they plan to pivot or do they just expect us to fall head over heels for folk who aren’t speaking to or energizing us?

Not once did I yell “answer the question “ during this interview. Probably a first.
-
Good point.

Honesty is SOOO refreshing

-
This. He is honest about everything, including his early (years ago) desires to be straight, which a lot of us gay people went through and I appreciate him being honest about it even if it's not the woke thing to say.
-
I loved the dialogue also between
@Lawrence and@maddow as well. It’s time for the elephant in the room to come out also
#HonestDiscussion is what#TheWorldNeedsNow

Actually,
@SenSanders just made that exact point at#BernieTownHall tonight! Before#PeteButtigieg even, ET! Not to be petty. Lol.
-
Not to be petty but Pete has been saying this all along. It wasn't like a race to say it first.
-
I was kidding abt being first.
Bet Bernie’s said it before as well. Looking forward to more from both.
-
Well Bernie IS a lot older, so he had plenty of time to say it before Pete. lol
-
True dat! Im just now listening to the
#PeteButtigieg interview on#Maddow show. She's so talented, I had forgotten. Got turned off by her Russia fixation, so turned her off for mos. But this is good. He's interesting. Im not locked onto anyone yet. -
Rachel's Russia reporting will one day be vindicated. Rachel is no one's fool and her scholarship and dedication to her profession is amazing and I applaud her.
