Okay. We’re copping serious flak for a coupla tweets we did today, so for those yelling at us, here’s a fuller explanation. We hope this will put our MFW POV more clearly. Thread:

6. NOW. This is where it gets tricky. Because here’s the thing: white women are privileged too: AS A CLASS. Not as individuals or small groups, but as a class of people, white women have more privilege & structural power than other women & than trans and non-binary folk.

7. Other groups have more privilege AS A CLASS too. For example, while there are many people (esp. women) over 50 who are dreadfully deprived & persecuted, those people AS A CLASS have more privilege in most places than those younger. They hold most wealth & property & power.

8. Straight people have privilege AS A CLASS. Cis people have privilege AS A CLASS. Non-disabled people have privilege AS A CLASS. To repeat: not all white, older, straight, cis & able people are particularly privileged & many are suffering. But THEIR CLASS is more privileged.

9. So here’s the thing. What we notice at MFW is that many of the same people who want men to understand their class privilege will, at the same time, REFUSE to understand their own class privilege. Whenever we post about the negative propensities of some white women we are ...

10. ... deluged with comments from OUTRAGED white women who won’t countenance a single criticism of their class. Even though ~50 percent of white women voted for Trump & large numbers of white women are disgracefully racist, white women are horrified by this being pointed out.

11. We are literally SWAMPED by their
#NotAllWhiteWomen comments. & it’s the same for every other type of privilege. People can’t bear having the general privilege of a class they’re in pointed out. In particular, older people ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to listen to the slightest ...Prikaži ovu nit -

13. All we have been trying to say (for years, now, with little headway) is that if women want men to understand structural class and stop saying
#NotAllMen, we all also have to understand other forms of structural class, in order to be effective feminists. And if we’re not ...Prikaži ovu nit -
14. ... willing to learn this concept & stop saying
#NotAllWhiteWomen &#NotAllBoomers &#NotAllAblePeople & so on, we’re never going to be the feminists we should want to be. That’s it. That’s all we’re doing: pointing out hypocrisy. & if you still wanna disagree & flounce, ...Prikaži ovu nit -
15. ... go ahead because we’re now out of ideas on educating witches on this v. important issue. That’s our MFW policy. It matters. Take it or fucking leave it. End. PS: this tweet thread was written by a 56 year old white woman. For those who think we’re racist &/or ageist.
