Personal academic paradox: My IMHO most valuable contribution to science (book) has low value in traditional academia: - Not officially peer-reviewed - Not published in journal/conf - Can't use it for my dissertation - Senior researchers told me "not worth it, focus on papers"
And if you try applying for a position in academia, your book will most likely barely be taken into account by most institutions :/... ("Self-published? Anyone can do that!")

Since many people cited it, I think it might have some impact. I guess it depends on the person doing the reviewing whether they count non-peer reviewed stuff. It's actually funny to think of the book as not being peer reviewed. Bc. so many gave me feedback which I included.
