Currently, public sub counts are abbreviated in most but not all places across YouTube. In August, we’ll make this more consistent by always showing abbreviated sub counts publicly. Creators: You’ll still see your full sub count in Studio! Learn more → http://yt.be/help/abbrev-count …pic.twitter.com/pmaKk4EU4k

For channels with less than 1,000 subscribers, the exact (non-abbreviated) subscriber count will still be shown!

So why not do this for all channels?

Because
@YouTube wants to be number 2 behind@Google forever and won't have a chance of surpassing them.

I'm aware of that. BUT, if
#YouTube doesn't REALLY listen to thier creators then it's pointless for them to surpass Google if they're not going to fix the issue we've asked for time and time again! And until they do that.... then the creators will be more respected.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
But YouTube can't really "surpass Google" if they ARE Google? Surpassing basically means "going above the quality of" or "becoming the more favorable option". YouTube isn't a web browser, it's a video streaming/sharing service/site. Simply, they're in different classifications.
