Seeing history in person is cool. It’s even more rewarding when it’s family. I got to look last week at manuscripts my great-great grandfather Solomon Schechter brought to Cambridge from the Cairo Genizah. So thankful to all the people at who have worked on this.

Walterboro SC, pop. ~5,400, expected true crime nuts and murder trial voyeurs to overwhelm the town for the #murdaughtrial, plus potentially more than a hundred journalists. Here’s a long read about the town itself and how the town has prepared for its “trial of the century.”

When ESPN and NBC vied for rights to the 2018 & 2022 World Cups, they bid blind. But not Fox. New testimony alleges it got inside information on how much to bid from a FIFA VP who’d been taking bribes from a Fox business partner for years. Fox won.

Again, we're in 2nd week of session. And, unlike DC, we're not having a fight over the speaker and committee assignments, etc. So what's the impact? We'll likely see more floor fights like yesterday and maybe more campaign involvement. Welcome to legislative sausage making

Meanwhile, HFC members have been tweeting that they are "kicked out" of the caucus. OK, so here's what we know courtesy of actually being there yesterday and talking to both sides: - At least 4 HFC members have signed the rules - Negotiations are ongoing, acc to some

House GOP Caucus announced 2023 priorities yesterday. W/ them were some HFC members. Majority Leader Davey Hiott told reporters of those members who haven't signed the rules, "They have chosen not to caucus with us at this time" but said the door is always open.

It's been reported for weeks that some ~20 members of the HFC didn't sign these 'rules/loyalty pledge/oath,' though there's been conflicting info on the actual signing part. But anyway, reports said 20. The number appears to be lower than that.
