We would play a game in the 90’s: randomly read a paragraph from any Martin Amis book book. And every one was a winner. A verbal juggernaut.

Martin Amis’s literary voice was “instantly recognizable,” Salman Rushdie writes. “Only Martin sounded like Martin Amis, and it was unwise to try to imitate him.” nyer.cm/Ftxpayt

The most important literary voice I heard in my 20’s came from this brilliant man. Read “London Fields” and “Money” and “The Information” and… all of it. Thank you Martin for a peek at genius.

On page after page of Martin Amis’s work, you find an “attention to the comic music, to the careful sardonic orchestration, sounded and built up word by word, that constituted his brilliant style,” James Wood writes. nyer.cm/c6Vyb9Y

My younger brother Will Weatherly shed his mortal coil on April 20th, 2023 and now continues his journey through the universe. He always liked to travel. As difficult as it is say goodbye- for friends and family- we know there is a smile with his memory. Rest in peace, brother.

Hi. Starting out as an actor, I read Charles Grodin’s book “It Would Be So Nice If You Weren’t Here”. Perfect title. His advice for young actors was to sit and watch people. Observe behavior. Enjoy the human carnival. I’m doing that today. It’s awesome. Thanks, Grodin.

I’m working on a mustache (moustache) and my daughter is adamant: this will not stand. Evidently, it is polarizing. Tonight we watch Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. Then some Magnum PI original sauce, then Gibbs season 4… maybe Gone With The Wind? How far will it go? :{)

So at sushi lunch the server asked “what’s next, Michael?” I said a podcast and maybe an indie movie, another round of DiNozzo at some point. She stared at me and said, “no-sorry-what’s your next sushi dish?”. Humbled, I of course asked for jalapeño hamachi. And the check.

Finally! Now there’s a way for me to explain branches of governmental power to my kids without seeming like I am trying to get them to eat spinach.
