We're kicking off our new forecasting project with a one-day workshop in London on 3rd March. Come and learn how to see the future better!

There are loads of books on the habits of CEOs and leaders, but very few on how to become one of the grifters that sponges off them. I’m much more interested in that. I would read ‘Rasputin to Reiki: How to Milk the Wealthy and Powerful’

'Working in politics' means going to events for charities that don't really do anything to serve their stated purpose, but the problem they're ostensibly trying to solve doesn't really exist either so it's ok. The hard part is having to act like you don't know this

There's an old saying that in the CofE you tend to get Tory congregations led by lefty clerics, and that in Papistical circles you tend to get left-leaning laity led by Tory priests. Fairly accurate in my experience, as massive generalisations go.

Interesting idea: the postwar memetic cordyceps ate the boomers but their parents and children were immune? Feels like most boomer billionaire philanthropy is about gaining status among upper normies via foundations. Maybe the younger rich are more secure, or socially insulated?

Also it feels like patronage is a bigger thing these days. At a meeting recently we found by show of hands that a majority of the young clever people in attendance had got money from at least one eccentric billionaire, and eccentric billionaires favour the curious

Confounds: the curious people may also have some of the worst careers and now be invisible, also the curious cohort seemed to have richer parents and more generations of education to fall back on

In undergrad a really prevalent meme was that you could either gun hard for career by ignoring everything non-credentialled, or explore + follow your curiosity, but not both. But more than a decade out it seems like the curious people got the best careers too

Since June '16 we've had currency fluctuations, elections, debates, court cases and protests, a wild ride for many of us right up till the final deadline today. But I'll always be grateful that I never once listened to anyone's Brexit-themed podcast

Roger Scruton’s solution to the housing crisis This is a great idea - good for the environment, less car-dependent communities, reduce the cost of housing and therefore homelessness

Audience for this will be interesting: so far a mixture of government analysts and finance people, which always makes for a slightly richer discussion (and anecdotally, more accurate forecasts)

The solution to these problems is to work in a foreign country where your social class is illegible, I think everyone should get to experience this
