    Q5 From an equity perspective, allowing students to have a voice through justification and collaboration empowers students to believe their voice matters. It also helps promote the tolerance of other’s ideas. What do you do in your classroom to promote equity?

    Number talks are critical. Students are shown the value of deep thinking, of how to correct mistakes, and most importantly the value of everyone’s ideas. has a few great examples- Often the “struggling” students have the most creative ideas!

    Q4 How do you get students to actively engage in discussion and the defense of mathematical ideas rather than solely value the answer, especially when this has never been the expectation for students previous mathematics classes?

    It is so hard to get students to focus on growth when the majority of their feedback is grades- this helps with that thank you !

    We have taught many math lessons during art class this year- stressing the visual and creative side of math. Our art teacher is amazing!

    "Build, Draw, Write, and TALK" was my motto this year. I'm thinking I need to change "Draw" to "Model" next year!!!

    Number talks have created such a respectful environment where mistakes are talked about and all kids feel they have something to contribute. This took time but the effects are long term ...

    A2 I show growth from pre-test to post-test. This gets students away from seeing their grade or score to seeing the growth they are making. This lets them look at what they are doing well instead of "oh i got x, y, and z wrong." MTMSchat
