Yes, you read that right. The governor wants to cut funds intended to improve things like indoor air quality in schools during a pandemic.

Another cut to be considered Wed. is $70+ million in pension contributions, including supplemental grants to counties established when pension costs were shifted to locals. Counties still need to come up with these funds, so that means potential cuts to local ed funding. 4/11

At the BPW meeting, we urge Comptroller
@peterfranchot & Treasurer Nancy Kopp to stand with students and educators and reject the governor’s cuts to public education. 5/11 (but wait there's more...unfortunately)Show this thread -
The governor also proposed $233 million in cuts to be considered by the legislature when it next convenes (likely in January). These cuts include an across the board $200 million cut to K-12 operating funds—which pay for positions, salaries, and student programs. 6/11

He also proposes a $32 million cut in school capital improvements, including another $21 million cut to the Healthy School Facilities Fund & $8 million to Public School Safety. Is it too much to ask that educators & students have safe learning environments during a pandemic? 8/11

We will need to ask legislators to stand against these harmful cuts as well—but immediately, we need to call on Comptroller
@peterfranchot & Treasurer Kopp for their support against cutting school funding. Click here to email them --> https://netdonor.net/page/63470/action/1 … 9/11Show this thread -
“Educators have stepped up throughout this crisis to do all we can for our students, and the governor’s cuts are a slap in the face. These cuts are simply wrong; students and educators need more—not less—support, resources, and safety measures." -MSEA President

"We condemn and oppose these cuts in the strongest possible terms and call on the Board of Public Works and the legislature to reject these cuts.” -MSEA President
