Open a support case from the General O365 Admin Console or is there a special ATP console?
No this is not normal. The Mac device should report after onboarding it to the service and you should see it in the machine list. Please open a support case and submit a frown from the console. Thanks!

Yes there is a special MDATP console, and that's also the console where the machine reporting shows up. http://Securitycenter.windows.com - that's how you can access your MDATP tenant.
