It's been like this all night for NE MPLS. Constant flashes and distant rumbles. First from the south, now off to the NNW. Only a few traces of rain this whole time.
I have rarely seen lightning this continuous. This is a tornado alley-level lightning show.

Here in South Africa our highveld thunderstorms are regularly like that. Fortunately for us tornadoes are an extremely rare occurrence.

I'm in Fridley and we have been having lightning since before 11pm but hardly any thunder. Why is that?

Same question here. At one point around 11pm there was constant lightening, but no thunder.
