US COVID19 will be done in 4 weeks with a total reported death below 170,000. How will we know it is over? Like for Europe, when all cause excess deaths are at normal level for week. Reported COVID19 deaths may continue after 25 Aug. & reported cases will, but it will be over.https://twitter.com/MLevitt_NP2013/status/1281982362751049730 …

Thanks so much. Total population and totally annual natural deaths very similar to EuroMOMO area. Right now there are overall 414 reported deaths/million in US. If same as Europe, US about 80% complete. Certainly hope this is true and US saturates at no more than 170,000 deaths. https://twitter.com/czr111/status/1281938418893758464 …

For the next few months you may turn out to be right. But we need to be taking more seriously the possibility that winter is going to make things a lot worse.

don't we need a significant mutation of the virus to get a 'worse' outbreak next winter?

Would love to go with this, but has it burned through the Midwest enough for it to be over? The northeast (yes), the sun belt (probably), but I fear that it has not burned through the midwest enough yet. Argument to be made through for less population density so not as bad.
