At this pace, San Francisco is going to strangle itself to death. 15 years from now the economic center of the Bay will have moved to Oakland, where housing and office space will be plentiful and where starting a company doesn't mean sucking up to local feudal lords.

John Elberling is a very shrewd guy, far from a fool. His agenda is to cap the population of SF and he has pursued it for decades. SF's population would be larger but for his efforts.

Actually.... A lot of it will move to San Jose, where BART is coming (in a few years) and city leaders are thrilled about new office development

It won't kill startups at all. Startups don't build new office space and they aren't picky about what they get on rentals. There is tons of available office space in the city.
