Not defending the expanded playoffs, but a 7 game series is hardly a crapshoot.

It most certainly is compared to winning a division over 162 games.

Baseball has always straddled the line between merit and crapshoot. Fans have always accepted that it is impossible to determine the best team from a short series, but at least merit was required to GET to the crapshoot. Now the merit part is being wiped out.

Both of you are missing the point about this MLB “season”. It is STRICTLY about the $$$. No more, no less.

In the long run it will be detrimental. You’re putting out a inferior product IMO.

Then forget a 162 gm reg season. Just play playoffs/tournament with all teams over 2 months and that’s that. 162 gm reg season is now essentially meaningless.

First of all I dislike the expanded playoffs, but: - 1 game playoff is exciting & a total crap shoot - 3 game series is absolutely a crap shoot - 5 game series is okay, not perfect - 7 game series has never been a crap shoot & almost always rewards the better baseball team IMO

It's a pity they couldn't give an incentive to make it less of a crapshoot. I'd prefer to have division champions given a one game advantage in each of this year's First Round series - make the lesser teams win twice in a row or go home.

It’s creating a random ‘knock out’ competition that renders the 162 game ‘qualifiers’ a total non-event
