It wasn't actually a ground attacker-the cannon was for blasting enemy aircraft. Was pretty good at it-Russians loved it as a low-altitude dogfighter.

It’s the Airacobra we Lend-Leased to the Soviets because nobody else wanted it.

To be fair, it was a good low-altitude dogfighter, but what we needed were high-altitude escorts. The Soviets certainly got their money's worth-Airacobras actually have the most kills of any US built aircraft.
