Next children's book is Garrett Morgan. He fought through racism, invented cool things, saved people's lives, got slighted...Then recognized. If you think that is too much to cover in a kid's picturebook...See what we did with Rachel Carson and DDT.

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow today, so we’ll have four more years of climate science denial unless we vote the GOP out.

Aside from getting married and having kids, making this children's book is the coolest thing I have ever done. In the early 1900's, Garrett Morgan used his invention to save lives in a tunnel explosion.

This here is Madame C. J. Walker. Even though she is mostly an entrepreneur. She made her money inventing products in women's hair care. She was the first female self made millionaire in America. Here, she's just driving round New York like she owns it.

Walter Lincoln Hawkins, a pioneer in polymer chemistry, along with a partner Vincent Lanza, created a lightweight, durable coating for telephone lines. This reduced costs, & replaced lead sheathed lines and made having a telephone affordable in rural areas.

People should remember the 1936(Nazi Germany) Olympic 400m gold medalist Archie Williams. Archie was also one of the few African-American trainers of the Tuskegee Airmen and was a Tuskegee(AF)meteorologist.

Did you know that Shirley Ann Jackson was the first African American women to earn a PhD from and the second to earn a PhD in physics at any school? She is alive today and has a resume that is out of this world. Look her up.

Garrett Morgan would hire a white actor to sell his products. In 1916 he used one of his inventions to rescue workers trapped in a tunnel explosion. That invention was the inspiration for the US Army's gas mask. Saving more lives.

Roger Arliner Young's story is one of persistence. She struggled academically, cared for her disabled mother and fought the odds of being black and a female to become the first African American woman to receive a doctorate degree in zoology.(1940) Look her up!

Before Rosa Parks, there was Elizabeth Jennings Graham. She was kicked off a public streetcar while on her way to church. She fought New York transit companies in 1854...and won! Look her up. Her dad was a barrier breaker too.
