Seems like overkill for just one of numerous genocides in history.

Right?!? We read Anne Frank’s diary in the 4th grade, read and watched the boy in stripped Pajamas in middle school, and in my film class in high school we watched Shindlers List. I don’t know how people don’t know how many people were murdered during or in the holocaust.

Yes! This was my daughter’s experience and my students often tell me we cover it too much and it’s repetitive. I’ve met one kid in 22 years of teaching who was this ignorant on the topic of the Holocaust.

It’s because they only asked 1k people and are trying to apply the results to over 83 million people

That’s still now most all surveys have to work, can’t realistically sample millions of people. Here’s an article on margins of error and sample sizes: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/howcan-a-poll-of-only-100/ …

Take into account the fact that this doesn’t reflect all young adults in America, but rather those polled. I’m sure far more than half know what the Holocaust is, or at the very least have heard of it, however the main takeaway should be that our educational system is lacking 1/2
