If only there existed a coequal branch of government tasked with providing a check on executive power... But, how?
-
-
-
No mention of “co-equal” anywhere in the constitution or fed papers. Congress is the dominant branch without question.
-
Executive, Legislative and Judicial are supposed to be equal branches of the government. And they should check each other.
-
But they aren't. For example, Congress can fire the President. The President cannot fire Congress or members thereof. Congress can remove Supreme Court justices; the Supreme Court cannot remove them, etc etc...
-
Article I is first for a reason; the People are supreme.
-
Article 1 is about establishing the legislative branch. It says nothing about the People. All three branches are subservient to the People.
-
The legislative branch *is* the People.

Let's be clear. The GOP is a party of feckless, spineless, Vichy enablers. They brought our country to this point. And the media were co-conspirators for much of this shitshow.

They've been well compensated by Deripaska's pal, Len Blavatnik. That's why no oversight, no money for cybersecurity, no plan for election security.https://www.opensecrets.org/outsidespending/donor_detail.php?cycle=2016&id=Access+Industries&type=O&super=N …

There is only one important question to ask: will that Republican senator, or his colleagues, do more than talk off the record to a columnist or issue a few worried tweets?
-

If he doesn’t say that publicly he is still complicit.

Was your follow up question, “Well, Senator, what are you going to do to fix this?”
-
And as a follow up to the follow up: "And what took you so long to realize this?"

Well, they know what their options are to remedy this perilous situation. And off the record hand-wringing isn't one of them.
