Talked to R Senator yesterday who is not prone to hyperbole. In the course of our conversation on the departure of Mattis he said twice: “We are in peril”. Many in DC, including Rs, now unsure if administration can be relied upon to carry out its most basic nat sec duties.

If only there existed a coequal branch of government tasked with providing a check on executive power... But, how?

No mention of “co-equal” anywhere in the constitution or fed papers. Congress is the dominant branch without question.

Executive, Legislative and Judicial are supposed to be equal branches of the government. And they should check each other.

But they aren't. For example, Congress can fire the President. The President cannot fire Congress or members thereof. Congress can remove Supreme Court justices; the Supreme Court cannot remove them, etc etc...

Article 1 is about establishing the legislative branch. It says nothing about the People. All three branches are subservient to the People.

Let's be clear. The GOP is a party of feckless, spineless, Vichy enablers. They brought our country to this point. And the media were co-conspirators for much of this shitshow.
