I watched the film and I enjoyed it, but I do agree. Lin Manuel Miranda and the casting team should’ve done better with darker skinned representation. As someone who will soon live in NYC, I’m sure I’ll see more darker skinned Latinos than what the movie portrayed.

Yes! The representation was lacking! The lead actress and director's response to this was horrible. When you come here you will so many dark-skinned Afro-Latinx people all across NYC, especially Brooklyn, Bronx, Washington Heights, etc..

Yes, it's not real representation. The Black representation is mostly the dancers. They didn't seek out any Afro-Latinx people in the audition to be a part of the cast. They rejected them because the light and white Latinx were a "better fit" in a BLACK Dominican neighborhood.
