Shaquita Bennett filed police reports and took out orders of protection against her ex-boyfriend. Why wasn't that enough to protect her? takes a deep dive into her case:

I find this post troubling. Not only b/c it seems like it was be hard for an officer to look for the fanny pack in a situation where cops frequently say they have a split second to react, but also b/c of its descriptions of likely non-CCL holders.

From the police-focused website which tries to help cops ID a CCL holder: "Concealed carriers generally wear holsters. This is a key point. Most felons I have known or heard about won’t carry a firearm in a holster. Fanny packs are also common."

Here's an interesting thread on the forum between members discussing whether a CCL holder can/should help an officer in such a situation.

A list of CLL holder shootings in Illinois. Lots of licenses out there, though only 2 percent of state's population has one, per reporting that's part of a really enlightening series by here:

Also, what standards or regulations are in place to hold the CCL holder responsible, and also protect the CLL holder from prosecution, future lawsuits, etc? 6/

Let's say that during a busy and chaotic situation (ie a shooting during rush hour or on a downtown street) a bullet fired strikes a bystander? Or police mistakenly shoot someone who is genuinely trying to help?

With police-involved shootings, there is a process in place to clear the officer in shooting a suspect or holding them accountable, depending on the situation. When a CCL holder gets involved, how does that change things, especially if something goes wrong? 4/

Concealed carry with a permit is legal in Illinois, and in this case this person is be hailed for helping officers in a situation where one of those officers was seriously wounded and could have been killed, but ... 3/

I ask because it seems like a person getting out of their car or walking up to a situation like this in street clothes with a gun in the heat of the moment has the potential for something to go wrong. 2/

Genuine question: How should a concealed carry holder ID themselves in situations like this so as not to endanger themselves, the officers and innocent bystanders?

Story updated with reporting. This line struck me: "A person with a concealed carry permit stopped and opened fire on the suspect, as the did officers."
