Ah yes, because he definitely won't (and isn't presently) doing that already. Let's not do X because Trump and Limbaugh will lie about it to their sheep who take them at their word is an argument you can apply to literally anything
-
Except that during the Lewinsky scandal, when the Senate acquitted Bill Clinton, the Republican Party lost seats in the midterm. The opposition party NEVER loses seats in the midterms. An unsuccessful inquisitorial impeachment caused that loss. It’ll cause one for Dems, too.
-
Bad example
-
You have to remember that most people who vote don’t follow politics and operate on very low signal. Trump is acquitted means something very different to those folks than it does to you or me
-
Respectfully disagree. I think the news seeps into those who don't watch it through friends and family. Impeachment will become popular the more it is covered.
-
This is possible. And there is an incremental approach that can get us there by building widespread support. But the thing to do here is get independents who are represented by Republicans to push on their reps.
-
Yelling at the Democrats to get ahead of that support (and hope it catches up) as opposed to building that support seems counterproductive to me. And starting impeachment off this report will exactly come across as sour grapes for folks who don’t pay attention

That is defeatist bullshit. Stop saying we can't go after him because somehow the GOP will beneift. That attitude is why the Democrats have so many problems, always worrying how the GOP will use something against them. It's moral cowardice.
-
It’s not moral cowardice, it’s realism. And Democrats could benefit from a little realism.
-
Constantly going "But the GOP will use it against us!" is garbage.

You have to trust the election, and currently I am skeptical that Republicans aren't trying to rig it right now. In fact I know they are.
-
And if they lose Trump will make a play at dictatorship. Been saying this, gonna keep saying this. They are literally laughing watching us discuss the 2020 election as if it will matter.
-
He will certainly act like an even bigger asshole.

HE’S DOING THAT RIGHT EFFING NOW! Rule of politics: most of the public is either not paying attention or just barely paying attention. The news cycle is the only chance to influence the public. I guarantee impeachment proceedings won’t make him any more popular or vindictive.
-
Remember when Republicans were harmed by their obsession over Benghazi and Hillary’s emails even though nothing was found and they wasted everyone’s time? ME NEITHER!

So your resistance amounts to... waiting it out? What are you even resisting?
-
Organizing, electioneering and campaigning isn't "waiting it out."
-
It very literally is doing nothing with the one lever of power you have acquired?

If the resistance is based on anything Trump or the GOP claim, then what are we doing? Are there people out there thinking, “you know if Trump isn’t impeached or convicted, I should give him my vote”?
