The other issue with the counter-proposal is that parent companies are not liable for their suppliers, but only those companies they directly control. So this wouldn't create liability for events like Rana Plaza, or abuses caused by Shell's suppliers in Ogoniland.

I wonder if they mean something else. The organisations listed are all NGOs etc... it is perhaps not quite such a broad coalition as you thought

well, their news page makes a distinction between companies and members. "As of mid-April 2018 we are at 97 member organizations, 33 companies and 65 personalities in the support committee".

Beyond the specifics of this particular initiative, I'm excited that you guys are getting to see a bit of the processes of our rich tradition and processes with public initiatives and referenda!
