Saying that I do not understand your motives when I do not is an entirely fair thing to do. And honest, I would suggest. Chartered accountants are in fact expected to ask such difficult questions and not take matters at face value. Problems arise when they do not.

So no I don't think it is 'entirely fair' for a Professor, an ICAEW member, a thought leader, a senior advisor to NGOs etc... to make ad-hominem attacks impugning the motives of someone without evidence, instead of engaging with the content of what they are saying.
I have said I do not understand your motivations. I have suggested they appear to be pro-corporate. I have asked of your funding sources. Is that inappropriate? If so, a lot of people ask me very inappropriate questions.
