I agree with Didier that the total tax contribution measure doesn't fit well w rest of DB - it measures (theoretical) direct cost rather than degree of red tape. It is valuable to assess TTC, but separately from DB Index

But... Its not outlandish to think that lower taxes good for business (and <26% TTC doesnt mean having low gov revenue overall - eg Denmark, Botswana) + countries w really high TTC on paper probably not collecting it - not good for revenues, accountability or biz!

The Paying Taxes measure looks at at a domestic flowerpot company - a "workhorse" in Pritchett, Sen & Werker's Deals and Development Framework - wouldn't it be interesting to calculate it for the other sectors?!pic.twitter.com/Bsj3Wxizsy

Replying to @MForstater
Great to see the
#effectivestates framework that categorises the private sector being put to good use! Well done@MForstater. We need to stop thinking of the private sector as a homogenous group. Facilitating magicians & workhorses is key for#inclusivegrowth &#governance1 reply 1 retweet 2 likes
