I used to think condescending guys were bit tedious.
But now i think sexism isn't just sexism.
Their unquestioned assumptions about gender may suggest intellectual laziness & little critical reflection generally?

that's true. we *all* go with the herd (we habitually go along with what others are doing, we don't consciously reflect over every single action) but some of us have been in different herds (so see things differently). so maybe it's just different exposure, not intelligence.

that said, i think that there may be an overlap between 1) sloppy thinking generally and 2) proclivity to go with the herd and unconsciously perpetuate various kinds of bias (not just limited to gender, but also race, class, nationality etc).

...we all ignore some things, & take time to think about others. & we do it selectively to avoid cognitive dissonance, & based on markers of 'what's important'. The unconscious bias thing I think comes in 'cos 'whats important' tends to be associated with old/rich/white/men etc
