Let's vote with our feet on womens fashion outlets like Phase 8 and Oliver Bonas who had worst figures so far. What will they do to change it? Need to seriously address their idea of boys jobs and girls jobs.pic.twitter.com/0BLYuQakAh

Transparency driving customer questions is the point of GPG reporting that I won the battle for in govt - but my reading of @OliverBonas stats suggest they're not the worst: 9.6% mean & 1.4% median? Still work to do obv, but not comparable to @PhaseEightJobs mean GPG of 65% ?pic.twitter.com/FwTaNzPHMY

The @PhaseEightJobs figure is shocking, largely driven by 2.5% employees being men, but 53% senior leadership. They boast 88% of internal promotions being women - but this is poor when women are 98% of staff. And basic numeracy fail: 1710 female employees but 1540 overall???pic.twitter.com/D4jbVe5oIY

I'm looking at it now, some interesting figures: If you strip out the HO and leave only retail there are only 5 male employees The GPG is now a negative There are 39 males in HO and 47% of senior managers are female

As with most GPG figures, this highlights discrepancies between senior and junior levels in terms of gender. Obeying equal pay law is not sufficient. It's bizarre that many women's fashion companies are so dominated by men at senior levels.

More males in the retail sector at the lower quartiles will certainly drive change towards closing the gender pay gap. I suspect in Phase8 the upper quartiles are not that disproportionate it's the lower ones.pic.twitter.com/OlcblheaOL

Individual biz =/= 'the retail sector' though. e.g. Phase 8 - Boutique style women's fashion retail w high customer service - few staff in each store, bringing alternative sizes into changing room, giving opinion on outfits etc.. how many men want the job?
