      Excellent example. First question: did that South African bank insist on lending against equity held offshore because it didn't trust Nigerian courts?

      I doubt very much investors or lenders would have accepted a Nigerian holding company for precisely that reason. If Mauritius didn't exist then might have been UK; would never have been Nigerian.

      Assuming Nigeria not possible (and we need to deconstruct that claim... many companies invest in Nigeria), isn't UK better than Mauritius?

      Well if the UK gets more tax money, can be used at least for UK public services OR development aid (that may go to Nigeria). +transparency

      This seems an odd measure of 'better' - these are already taxpayer supported funds using ODA from different countries, with objective to make deal viable in Nigeria, not support UK public services.

          In an imperfect world, isn't that better than lack of transparency in Mauritius / tax dodging for companies? + it's not like ODA is enough!
