Revenue seems like an odd metric here - it does not flow up the ownership chain.

was thinking not crazy as *very* rough approximation to suppose returns are proportional to revenue?

Exactly, it's a rough approximation. We have better data on revenue than profits. It works since we study millions of these ownership chains

I can see why u might use revenue as a rough approximation proportionate to profit, but then u seem to interpret 'value' as investment flow.pic.twitter.com/2CarP5G7lZ

i.e. u use it as indirect indicator of returns flowing to OFCs via UK, NL etc.. but then present it as investment flowing via UK, NL to OFCs

Ownership relations reflect previous investments. There is a strong relationship between foreign investment and our value flows (Fig. S1)pic.twitter.com/fqz59fwTji

But in the opposite direction to the one stated? - i.e. investment from OFCs to UK, NL etc...pic.twitter.com/90gYhikphk

It should read "to and from". Investments in the other direction (to sinks) are also canalized through conduits (Fig 2B).

But to the extent that they are 'sinks' it is because you do not know where the investment is from?
