I go per capita. Last time I did sum (2015?) $1tn / 60yrs / 1bn = £10pa. Hard to argue that a tenner at Xmas can get you out of poverty.

Yes percapita figures more intuitive- e.g mineral & oil exports frm Africa $232bn about same as UK exports of textiles, shoes &leather/ head
