      Indeed. Is cheap-and-cheerful transparency best/only solution given that dishonest people with stuff to hide will lie + privacy matters

      Quite! And in theory service providers are regulated, just very badly in most places.

      Possibly. But we don't apply 'open by default' to personal info in other areas (e.g. healthcare, benefits) Many eyes not always appropriate!

      Ah but is this really just "personal info"? I think no - company information is key for understanding lots of public interactions.
