This is interesting. So far in the UK much of the fight for open, evidence-based deliberation on how public policy should address sex & gender identity has been led by women coming from the left (@Womans_Place_UK @WNTTgra etc..)

It is an issue of acknowledging basic scientific truth (human beings cannot change sex) and of choosing the principle of freedom (everyone should be free to live as they chose) over authoritarianism (you must act like you believe in the ideology).

The vast majority of people on the left and the right, and both religious and non-religious agree on the basic fact that sex is real, binary and immutable. Just as they agree on the existence of gravity and the need to eat food.

There is even more agreement between people who are on the liberal side of the political compass about what this means for society. Its not so much a case of 'strange bedfellows' as agreement on the basic foundations of a liberal, secular, democratic society.
