Exactly. What is their purpose if not to amplify women's voices & enable these difficult conversations. They're necessary precisely because some people find them difficult. The answer in such times is not to draw down the shutters & hide
@fawcettsociety should be lighting the way
And the fact that women's orgs would not step up & say 'this is an important & difficult conversation' enabled all of the crap about women's concerns being a front for the religious right. By saying nothing they delegitimise the women who do speak up, & leave them open to attack.

That we are now making some progress toward open discussion is solely down to the courage & integrity of women who spoke out as individuals and firmed a grassroots resistance. Established women’s organisations have let us down badly.
