What do a midwife and a sex worker have in common? More than you might think.pic.twitter.com/l4PjbCdT6t

@AdamWagner1 - this is both poorly judged and poorly executed. The analogy with midwifery seems to begin and end with the fact that these are both jobs which are overwhelmingly done by women. If I were a midwife, I think I'd be rather insulted at being equated to a sex worker.14 replies 14 retweets 246 likes -
It’s also promoting the views (with logo) of one campaigning organisation. A charity with the object of educating the public and promoting support for human rights shouldn’t just be a vehicle for this. It’s provoked an understandable hostile response which defeats those objects

I've only just caught up with this. Watched several times open-mouthed. I agree with you, Aileen, Barbara &
@englishchick. Of course both groups face risks & have human rights but comparison of prostitution & midwifery is incomprehensible. They're not equivalent occupations1 reply 1 retweet 24 likes -

Generally a fan of the work done by RI but I'm baffled by this. Quite aside from the absurd parallel in this video, I'm struggling to understand how the pro-prostitution stance squares with RI's opposition to economic exploitation through modern slavery.

I've previously shared/recommended RI's materials as I thought some excellent. But this cartoon makes no sense to me, irrespective of the case for decriminalisation/legalisation of prostitution on which I make no comment here

The more I reflect, the angrier I am. To see RI staff dismissing criticism of this video as 'bullying' by the 'mumsnet crowd' upsets me. I am emphatically pro trans rights, I am also pro decriminalising sex work and promoting the rights of sex works. I am anti the sex trade 1/n

Rights Info staff seem to have a very poor understanding of the difference between an educational charity which must comply with its objects and with charity law, and activism and campaigning on issues of law and policy which are aligned with their own personal agendas

I'm not sure if either of you have been on the other side of a Twitter pile-on but as an individual I can tell you (from other times) that it is a frightening experience. Please can I ask that you consider that however reasonable and measured you both are, not everyone is...

I think you need to engage, not necessarily publicly, with the real concerns for
@rights_info info trustees that the reasonable and measured responses to this video have raised, rather than making endless flailing excuses for it and the response of members of staff to it2 replies 0 retweets 11 likes
Rights_Info staff see people disagreeing w the video a "vicious, organised pile on"... or maybe its just people disagreeing? If only there was a website that could host reasoned debate with different perspectives. Why doesn't your charity allow different views Adam?

There are two separate strands - debate over the content of the video, & the duties of
@rights_info trustees to comply with their constitutional objects & charity law. I am dismayed by the failure to simply acknowledge the trustees’ responsibility & that there is work to be done1 reply 1 retweet 5 likes -

I agree, Barbara. Plus there's a 3rd strand, ie how a charity responds to properly expressed challenge/criticism to their public information campaign.
@rights_info would be v critical of other public/charity bodies behaving in this sort of defensive manner1 reply 0 retweets 5 likes - 1 more reply
