This is where we started. No, context matters. Saying "you're fat." may be (a) true and (b) inoffensive in most contexts. That doesn't mean it is inoffensive in all contexts, meaning not being a matter of dictionaries.

I appreciate the argument, but in this context saying "I reject that you get to redefine what I am" isnt quite the same as saying "you eat too much pie".

And nobody claimed that they were, I was explaining how a statement of fact can be offensive.

Hugo. This is the point. The people who find the stickers offensive (not trans people but people who see the GC view as offensive) find it offensive in *every* context. So by your formula the moral thing for GC people to do is stay quiet to avoid giving offense.

That doesn't follow, no. I think gender critical views can be expressed in a non-offensive way, and that even if they cannot, there is no moral imperative to always restrain from doing anything that offends other people.

But, and here is where we disagree, I do not think these were simply the least offensive way of expressing a gender critical view. See all the many claims of "self defence" I have heard.

But the view expressed in the stickers is that "we want our word back". How can you say this in a less offending way?

We’ve tried that. That’s the point at which most of us started. Being polite, being kind. We were still called transphobes and bigots. Our very beliefs are offensive to them, it doesn’t matter how we express them.

And I understand the frustration. However, those you disagree with are not a corporate entity, where the bad behaviour of one is attributed to all, entitling you to respond in kind. And yes, I do know that is easy for me (a man) to say.

What you have defined as 'bad behaviour' (outwith the criminal damage aspect) is being clear about the definition of woman. What people are protesting against is the fact that this is judged to be bad behaviour!

No doubt if some sort of magical sticker could be devised that was only visible by those who would not be offended, or adversaries who had already been offensive, they would have used that instead.

It is ironic that @SpinningHugo appeals to context when he is blissfully unaware of the context of these stickers. I suggest starting with #waxmyballs Jessica Yaniv to enter the portal into hell that is trans activitism.
