Women don't owe men anything. And they certainly don't need to be NICE to sexists.

I think we should try to treat others as if we were them. I do think we all owe each other that duty.

Ah yes. If only rapists could stop for a moment and ask themselves "Wait! Would *I* like it if *I* were raped?" If only abusers could stop themselves with a reminder of the Golden Rule What a wonderful world that would be. But until then, let women defend themselves.

I had thought the entire point of my thread was to side with the women who wanted to do that, defending their freedom, and against the authorities who wished to stop them?

I do disagree, yes. It is possible to express a gender critical view in a less offensive way. That these are statements of fact (as I stated at the start) doesn't meant they do not (foreseeably, and deliberately) give offence.

Genuine question: how would you express that particular gender critical view in a less offensive (preferably inoffensive) way? How can that idea be conveyed such that nobody will be offended by it? I doubt it's possible. I'd like you to prove me wrong.

How about "Love and respect for all, but women only spaces are important." I suspect that isn't going to satisfy you as a rallying call though.

"Love and respect for all, but women only spaces are important." If women made those stickers and put them on Oxford lampposts the police would be calling them hate crimes within a month. They would be considered exactly as offensive as a dictionary definition or biological fact.

And, just as they are now, the police would be wrong. As I argued.

But would you also be arguing from a moral standpoint that the people putting up the stickers (bearing your words, now judged offensive) were behaving very badly and should stop? (Beyond the fact of vandalism, say it was a billboard?)

If you can say an idea in a less offensive way and still convey its meaning, then you should do that. Unfortunately I think the idea of "self defence" has (mistakenly) taken hold and is thought to justify what would otherwise be thought impermissible.
