I get the feeling Hugo originally thought he could set us all right with a few wise, manly tweets. He’s not actually a bad person so he’s finding it hard to reconcile his self image with the responses. Hopefully he’ll go away and reflect rather than turn into Jo Maugham Mark II!

Again, no that is not my argument. Context and mode of expression also matter. The very last thing I am doing is saying anyone should be required to shut up: I wrote in defence of freedom of expression for the women concerned.

There is no point. He does not even conceive of men (including TW) expressing their view in a less offensive way. The onus as usual is on women to be nice. Rawls would bang his head against the wall. Or maybe that is why he came up with veil of ignorance.

Unfair. I have expressly said the onus is on everyone to treat each other with respect, and if you look you'll find that I have responded to those arguing that the stickers should be criminalised to politely say that they too should treat others as they would wish to be treated.

He doesn't have a point really. A lot of chin-stroking pontification without real understanding of the situation
