I do disagree, yes. It is possible to express a gender critical view in a less offensive way. That these are statements of fact (as I stated at the start) doesn't meant they do not (foreseeably, and deliberately) give offence.

Genuine question: how would you express that particular gender critical view in a less offensive (preferably inoffensive) way? How can that idea be conveyed such that nobody will be offended by it? I doubt it's possible. I'd like you to prove me wrong.

How about "Love and respect for all, but women only spaces are important." I suspect that isn't going to satisfy you as a rallying call though.

I was asked for a phrasing that wasn't offensive. That isn't. Why does it undermine my answer if some other people don't understand the meaning of words?

Some words, even when factually true, are offensive in context. The stickering didn't argue for women only spaces or anything of that kind. It was just aimed at telling transwomen that they are not women.

Hugo: this is the context as @giagia, long of these parts, tells it https://twitter.com/giagia/status/1172813170546806784 … The idea that women are just asking in the wrong way, causing needless offence by not being rational or sensitive enough is naive (as we have learnt)

If members of a group have behaved unreasonably or said offensive things to you, or members of your group, in the past, I don't think that means you have a liberty you otherwise wouldn't have to behave towards members of that group differently than otherwise in "self defence".

No. That is not the point I am making. You say if only we had used inoffensive phrasing "Love & respect for all, but women only spaces are important" no one would have found it offensive. But that is exactly the phrasing that just about *everyone* has come into this using.

So your argument b) shuts down every expression of the gender critical position, because some people find the position itself (that women as a category excludes male people) offensive (or at least use offence taking as a means to shut it down.pic.twitter.com/GPAWirVX9b

No. But if you can express the same gender critical view whilst giving either no or less offence, that is the morally correct course, all other things being equal.
